Non Bleach Alternative

You'll love homemade non-bleach alternatives for their dual benefits of efficacy and eco-friendliness. Not only do they effectively clean and sanitize surfaces without the harshness of chlorine bleach, but they also promote a healthier indoor environment by reducing exposure to harmful chemicals.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 5 minutes
Total: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 cups hot water, plus additional room temperature water
  • 1 cup washing soda
  • 1-2 cups 3% hydrogen peroxide, or 1 cup Pure Sodium Percarbonate
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil
  • 3-5 gallon bucket or washing machine

Instructions

  • Prepare the Hot Water: Heat 4 cups of water until it's hot but not boiling. You can use a kettle or microwave for this step.
  • Mix Washing Soda: In a 3-5 gallon bucket or washing machine, add 1 cup of washing soda. Washing soda, also known as sodium carbonate, is a key ingredient in this solution as it helps to boost the cleaning power.
  • Add Hot Water: Pour the 4 cups of hot water into the bucket or washing machine with the washing soda. Stir the mixture well to ensure the washing soda is dissolved completely.
  • Incorporate Hydrogen Peroxide: Next, add 1-2 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide to the mixture. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural disinfectant and stain remover, making it an excellent addition to your cleaning solution. Alternatively, you can use 1 cup of Pure Sodium Percarbonate, which is powdered hydrogen peroxide bonded with washing soda, for an extra cleaning boost.
  • Add Lemon Essential Oil: To enhance the scent and add additional cleaning properties, add 10 drops of lemon essential oil to the mixture. Lemon essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties, making it a great choice for cleaning solutions.
  • Mix Thoroughly: Stir the mixture well to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Adjust Consistency: If necessary, add additional room temperature water to adjust the consistency of the solution. You want it to be thin enough to pour easily but still effective for cleaning.
  • Store or Use: Your homemade non-bleach alternative is now ready to use! You can store any leftover solution in a sealed container for future use or use it immediately for cleaning various surfaces, such as countertops, floors, or even laundry.
